Oh man, we, over here at Woogie HQ, are getting SUPER excited for what is to come at Lightning in a Bottle 2012! Do you have your tickets yet? LIB is going to sell out early this year, so don't wait too long!!
The LIB 2012 line-up has been announced!! Here is a list of all the Woogie Stage talent:
Lee Burridge : Nick Warren : Alexi Delano : Jesse Rose : Justin Martin : J.Phlip : Pumpkin : Android Cartel : Jeremy Sole : Mikael Stavostrand : Derek Marin : Sammy Bliss : idiot Savant : Anton Tumas : Rafael Araujo : Justin Levi & Grant Kaye : Red Sonya : Malarky : Zach Moore : Gravity : Tim Herrlein : Mikey Lion : Hyjynx
After attending some of the outdoor raves that were gaining momentum around London's M25 motorway, Lee's passion for music was turned on it's head and he felt excited in a way never felt before. "I had to find this music" he said and started to collect the first records, which have grown from the one red plastic record box of 1988 to over 35,000 records today. He has continued to release widely regarded, and much loved, underground mix CD's for companies like Global Underground, Everybody and, most recently, Balance. Lee continues to play the major festivals of the world from Notting Hill carnivals famous Sancho Panza stage to Exit festival, Creamfields and Homelands, Coachella, Love Parade, Dance Valley, Ultra, Acafest and in the last few years Burning Man, which he cites as the best event he's ever been to in twenty five years of going out.
** This marks Lee's 3rd year rocking the Woogie Stage at Lightning in a Bottle! **
You can tell when Nick Warren's on the decks. The music emanating from the DJ booth is that perfect club mix of driving percussion and soaring musicality, bursting out of the speakers, soaking everyone in melody, drenching them in sound. On the floor, where it really matters, the crowd experiences all the peaks and troughs that make Warren’s sensibility so unique. He might start with his deeper take on house, gradually morph into harder territory; then, once Warren has the throng fully in his grip, sweating and losing themselves in the music, moving on instinct, he takes them to points unknown they never expected to go. That's why Nick Warren is so respected: he knows how to truly work a crowd, delivering again and again, yet taking them somewhere they’ve never been before. That's what comes with vision and, just as importantly in Warren’s case, experience.
** This will be Nick's 2nd year bringing the boom to The Woogie Stage at Lightning in a Bottle! **
Alexi Delano dwells in the perfect balance between shiny minimalism and dark vivacious techno. With more than two decades on stage he has been able to combine different roots and facets of the contemporary music scale. Born in Chile but raised in Sweden, Alexi became part of some of the first wave of Swedish electronic music producers that made a name for themselves in the mid 90′s. Releasing on techno labels such as Missile, Primate, Hybrid, Jericho, Svek and many more. With a production and DJ style that sways neatly between house and techno, he consistently surprises with each release. Now Alexi Delano has no intentions of slowing down. He has a string of E.P's and remixes lined up for the year. There is no stopping Mr. Delano. He's a man who seems to be made of music.
** This will be Alexi's first time rockin' The Woogie Stage at LIB and we can't wait to hear his music on the Funktion 1's! **
'Sleep Less'... If there is one person who knows about lack of sleep it would have to be Jesse Rose. Take the month of March 2010: Jesse went from Berlin to Tokyo to play at Womb, back to Berlin for a day in the studio before heading off to Paris for his residency at La Regime, then direct to London to sign a new act, and off on his U.S Tour, including three gigs at WMC, before jetting off to Mexico to play at Santanera in Play Del Carmen and then jetting back to Berlin to finish a remix for Sound Pellegrino. For Jesse this fast paced life is nothing new. After growing up in a city that never sleeps, he's continued touring the world, producing genre defining productions, remixes and running two top notch labels; Made to Play & Front Room. It would be fair to say Jesse is on top of his game.
** 2012 marks Jesse's first time playing The Woogie Stage at Lightning in a Bottle, and, to be quite honest, we're squeeling like school girls with excitement over here! **
As the late Oscar Wilde once said, “Life is too important to be taken seriously”, an ethos that Justin Martin is sticking with despite achieving soaring success over the last six years as a producer and international DJ. Feeding off the energy of the San Francisco underground and mentored by fellow super producer Claude VonStroke, Justin was intrinsically involved with the development of dirtybird records. In 2010, such respect prompted an invitation for Justin to DJ mix Pete Tong’s infamous “Essential Mix” series and also landed his felicitous placement on the front cover of DJ Magazine. 2011 found Justin in the perfect position to work on his boldest project to date, his debut artist album and he couldn’t be more enthusiastically happy with the results. “Ghettos & Gardens” long player will be released on dirtybird late spring 2012, with a string of stunning singles to support the release.
** This is Justin's first time playing on The Woogie Stage at LIB and we're super excited to have him! **
Southern California techno favorites Android Cartel return once again to LIB to lay down their stylized and hypnotic grooves. Anyone who was present for their set last year on the Woogie Stage knows how magical and mesmerizing they made the night. From the minute they took the decks, to the rain coming down while they dropped their hit "Trip Through the Robot," and finishing off the night with Radioslave's Grindhouse, every second of their performance was perfect, unique and memorable. The Android boys are excited and honored to once again perform along side some of the best talent around, and rest assured, will leave you with holes in your shoes, and colors in your mind.
** With a truly epic set at LIB 2011, this marks the 2nd time the 'Droids have melted faces on The Woogie Stage at LIB! **

Chicago-born Jeremy Sole has been making beats since the MPC 60 was born, deejaying since rotary crossfaders were the standard, and playing clubs since he was too young to (legally) get in. As a teenager, Sole's underground loft parties were packed with sweaty bodies - a culture clash at the birth of Hip Hop and House music. He matured as a turntablist in Jazz, Dub and experimental hybrid bands before the phrase "Acid Jazz" confined that sound. The rich Chicago history of Blues, Jazz, Disco and Funk were all part of his upbringing, and like a true music lover Jeremy has always reveled in the place where they all blend together. “When I was young, I spent many a night in the alleys behind blues clubs, listening to cats like Buddy Guy through the air vents. Those same nights I would be mixing with legendary Disco deejays at our downtown loft parties."
** This is Jeremy's 2nd time bringing the funk to The Woogie Stage, with his first set being in 2008, and we're ecstatic to have him back! **
A drummer turned techno producer, Derek Marin has been playing with beats since he was 9. He has performed & collaborated with some of the biggest artists in electronic music world such as Andrew Fletcher of Depeche Mode, Mr. C, Terry Francis, Carl Craig, Adam X & the Yeah Yeah Yeahs just for starters. Not to mention his list of works is reaching an uncountable number. Derek is best known for his productions on the Tech House labels Plastic City, Thoughtless Music and Adultnappers original imprint, Matterform. Marin also produces under the monikers Sideview, Platonik, Modest D & others. In 2004, he established his own imprint, Faucet Music & is now heading the New York based techno label Subtrak. Look for his continuing onslaught of releases & remixes on various labels around the globe.
** Derek played a fantastic set for us at Woogie Nights LA in Feb. 2012, but this will be his first adventure on The Woogie Stage at LIB! **
Derek did his first studio mix in over a year for the Pocket Underground podcast Beat Soup! Check it out!
Originating from New York, Sammy found himself in Los Angeles in the early 90’s, which is where, ultimately, his DJ career flourished as part of the LA Underground scene. One half of the team that brings you The Woogie Stage at lightning in a Bottle each year, he’s also the co-founder of Pocket Underground, a DJ collective, artist management company and goofball party crew based out of Los Angeles and San Francisco. Known for bringing the deep, chunky Tech-House and dirty Techno, Sammy plays annually at Coachella and LIB, in addition to making asses shake at Spundae LA, Avalon, SF Love Parade, Burning Man, Fuente Eterno & Alma Paradiso (Mexico), Elysium Festival, Lucent L’Amore and more underground parties than he can remember. He’s a resident DJ with The Do LaB, NinjaSkillz and, of course, Pocket Underground. WOOGIE LOVE!
Take a listen to this mix that Sammy did, called Deep Pockets, exclusively for the Space Cowboys RIPEcast!
"If life is a bowl of cherries, our olive pits taste like Four Loko." - idiot Savant. Much like the layer of congealed fat settling on top of Mom's Gefilte Fish, Ron Levy and Jesse Wright formed a deliciously disgusting DJ duo known as idiot Savant. The duo created Pocket Underground in 2004 as an outlet for the Matzoh balls that were rattling around in their chicken broth. Ron has been playing and making music since he was knee-high to a duck and Jesse just does it for the free drink tickets. Both feel equally at home with their alkaline goggles on as they do their Burberry Banana Hammocks. Their music can best be described as funky, psychedelic, sexy and completely Kosher… Glatt Kosher… They haven't looked at the work schedule yet, but for the week of LIB Jesse is the Idiot and Ron is the Savant.
** This is year #2 for idiot Savant, after grabbing the baton from Lee Burridge and delivering a mind numbing set on Sunday night of LIB 2011. **
** 2012 will be Anton's first appearance on The Woogie Stage at LIB! **
Justin is from an organic farm in upstate New York where he was raised on a diet of rhubarb, stinky cheeses, and bleepy dark minimal funk-house.
With a background in 1’s and 0’s, Justin programs sets like he does web code … with great care and without pants. Justin occasionally also plays under the moniker “duckbutter,” with Grant Kaye, as they did on The Woogie Stage at the Lightning in a Bottle festival in 2011. Also part of the LA/SF based Pocket Underground crew, Justin is becoming a regular in the West coast festival scene, having rocked sets at LIB, The Bounce Festival, Burning Man, Spirit Dance & Reno Decom to name a few.
Known worldwide for his contributions to the interwebs, and his exceptional hat collection, Justin’s now stamping the world with his delicious tech-house styles and his odd love for the moustache.
Grant Kaye likes to play house music, blast off fireballs, run towards volcanic eruptions, and hang out on mountaintops with his cameras. He has a firm love and admiration for funky house music, with a propensity to gravitate towards tunes that lie a little left of center but solidly within the realm of good times. Grant gets down to smooth deep house, jackin' funky house, and techy house/techno - as long as it has that ass-moving funk. Grant was born in Hawai`i on the island of Lana`i, but now calls the Sierra Nevada mountains of California home. He lived in Wellington, New Zealand, where he hosted a radio show there on MUNT-FM, and played Thursday nights at the Attic Lounge above the Subnine Club. Grant was part of the crew that brought you the Electric Ladyland sound camp at Burning Man 2010 and the Chinese Takeout Box art cart in 2011.
Take a listen to Grant's new mix that he created for Pocket Underground's Beat Soup podcast!
Sonya Lynn, aka Red Sonya, spins fresh and firey beats that have the power to elevate the energy of the dance floor wherever she roams. She began spinning deep house music in 2001, and has since become known for her signature blend of minimal techno and tech-house with dirty bass lines and layers of tripped-out funk. Red Sonya can't be missed with her mane of red hair, and her piercing blue eyes, this scarlet diva is packing them in wherever she is.
** This is the 2nd time that Sonya will be makin' asses shake at The Woogie Stage at LIB! **
MALARKEY: Ma-lar-key: me-lar-ke' 1. irish slang: exaggerated or foolish talk, usually intended to deceive. 2. meaningless talk or nonsense. Diversity is king in a world filled with A.D.D, electronic hyperactivity and attention spans similar to that of goldfish... a concept that Malarkey knows all too well. Fusing the wiggly feet of b boys, burners & beatniks is the one thing this guy has no trouble focusing on. A multi-personality in the booth renders a playful gap between funky break beat for peak time discos to silky downtempo for after hour smoke outs to globe trotting world beat for dusty bare feet. Hailing from Sebastopol, CA his 5 year weekly (jUkE jOiNt) club event has pioneered dance music in the local area having hosted some of the worlds most renowned electronic music producers, while weaving variety skits & burlesque soirées along the way.
** This will be Malarky's first time on The Woogie Stage at LIB! **
As a member and resident of Space Cowboys, DJ Zach Moore spins events from San Francisco to the Burning Man playa, and beyond. In San Francisco, he's played epic sold-out events like Treasure Island Music Festival, Opulent Temple's Massive, and Space Cowboys' own Ghost Ship and Breakfast of Champions. These days, Zach's live sets are mostly packed with party rockin' breaks and tech house, but his love of electronic music starts with house and spans many of the subgenres, including deep, vocal, progressive, and electro. Zach is also the producer of the RIPEcast, the Space Cowboys' weekly and most-excellent electronic music podcast.
** Lightning in a Bottle 2012 will mark Zach's first time playing on The Woogie Stage! **
Although growing up in Chicago provided the perfect backdrop for the early days of Rob Adelmann's (aka DJ Gravity) funky, eclectic influences, his first real exposure to the genre came in 1997 while living in London. The thriving underground scene sucked him in and left a lasting impression. Rob bought turntables and began teaching himself the art of mixing. Shortly thereafter he was invited to camp and DJ at Pink Mammoth during Burning Man 2005. The Burning Man culture had such a profound effect that he was inspired to move to San Francisco where he became an integral part of Pink Mammoth. Whether playing an uplifting daytime party, epic sunset/sunrise set, or a peak time nightclub slot, his main source of inspiration comes from the dancefloor. Rather than sticking to a plan or sub-genre of house, Rob's sets are based on reading the crowd and creating an irresistible vibe and unforgettable experience.
** We're very excited to have Gravity play on The Woogie Stage for his very first time this year! **
Check out Gravity's live set from Woogie Nights SF in Oct. 2011, only on Beat Soup!
DJ Timmy began spinning music in 1999 and quickly joined forces with the Thump Radio crew in San Francisco as a resident DJ from 2000 to 2003. More recently, he's been working with the Yno5 crew (Lake Tahoe) playing and producing events as well as being an integral part of the Neuroweapon (S.F.) on the playa and beyond. Timmy is currently with the Head-Space Recordings label out of the U.K. and has started producing his own tracks as of last year. His first releases are expected this summer.
** 2012 will be Timmy's first set on The Woogie Stage at LIB! **
It all began with Wu-Tang & Daft Punk. What started as an obsession with underground Hip-Hop, turntable scratchin', and nimble fingers at the age of 13, shit got real for Mikey Lion during a trip to the top of the Daft Punk Pyramid. Now 23, the life of Mikey revolves around dancing and making people dance. Heavily influenced by a 4 month DJ residency at super club Sala Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Mikey's style has evolved into a roller coaster of tech-house grooves, deep tribal drums, and everything fun that makes the booty shake. What moves people is the name of the game. Determined to bring the European sound back to the Southern California scene is what spawned the creation of Jungle, a forward thinking deep-tropical-tech house party focused on pushing the good kind of house music onto the masses. Is it time to Woogie yet?
** This will be Mikey's first time rockin' a set on The Woogie Stage at LIB! **

HYJYNX has been moving souls and blowing minds for over the past decade as a founding member of Ninja Skillz Music in Los Angeles. 2012 marks his return to the LIB stage, as he is one of the original LIB DJ’s from all the way back in 2001! This Buckeye native has performed at events ranging from Ohio to Black Rock City and all the way down to Mexico; at festivals all over Southern California; and in countless warehouses, lofts, art galleries, and clubs.
